ANSA Annual Maintenance

Well its that time of year again – the offices are quieter, everyone is on Christmas / New Years break. It has come to that time of year again where we do a full service of all of our internal ticketing, monitoring and support services.

During these 7 days certain services (during certain small window periods) may be un-available. We urge customers to call our Sales & Support Centre on 1300 933 038 or our Network Operations Centre  on 1300 769 629 for support, sales or billing enquires.

We will try our hardest to do as much of the work during the graveyard hours (11PM – 7AM) but there is a lot of work that needs to be done.

We will be upgrading a lot of our ticketing systems to newer, faster and more echo friendly cloud clustered servers and implementing new features and updates to improve the overall performance of our network.

We ask when you do call up that you are patient with our staff during this period as the system will be responding very slowly depending on the work that is being carried out.

The set window is from 12AM Monday the 7th of January 2012 until 6AM Friday the 11th of January 2012.

If you have any inquiries about these upgrades or implementations please contact us via phone.

We do not expect that any of these service upgrades and modifications will impact on any shared, dedicated or colo location services. Certain management features from your billing portal will be unavailable between 11PM & 7AM.

If you continue having issues after Friday please get in touch with us as soon as possible

Unplanned Interruption: Intermittent DNS Connectivity

Aus Net Servers Australia was made aware of an issue regarding intermittent connectivity between our DNS Cluster at around 11:54PM Friday night. Engineers where dispatched to investigate the issue.

The problem turned out to be a glitch with BIND (the software that runs the root DNS software). This was corrected and the servers where put back into service.

At 6:28AM Saturday morning dns-server-1.vic.ausnetservers.net.au housing the records for ns1.ausnetservers.net.au & ns2.ausnetservers.net.au crashed and went offline. For some reason the cluster did not fall over as it should have and kept routing dns queries onto dns-server-1.vic.ausnetservers.net.au. Instead it should have fallen over onto the remaining DNS clustered servers and stopped sending queries onto the effected servers.

At 3:45PM Saturday afternoon, dns-server-2.vic.ausnetservers.net.au housing the records for ns3.ausnetservers.net.au & ns4.ausnetservers.net.au did a kernel stack crash and went offline

This left the entire ANSA Websites unreachable for about 4 hours.

At 7:31PM Saturday, our engineers brought dns-server-1.vic.ausnetservers.net.au back online and followed by dns-server-2.vic.ausnetservers.net.au about 3 hours later.

All servers are now back online and all services are looking stable. All traffic is flowing through the network nicely.

Our engineers have been looking into what caused the original issue in the first place and why the servers crashed as a result. If you are still having issues please contact NOC[at]ausnetservers[dot]net[au]

Unplanned Outage: Node 5 (static-203-39-19-123.vic.ausnetservers.net.au)

An unplanned hardware fault caused an unexpected reboot of Node 5 ( static-203-39-19-123.vic.ausnetservers.net.au). Engineers have been dispatched to investigate the issue  and rectify any further issues.

There has been no interruptions to client’s services as far as we are aware. If you are having issues with your service please lodge a ticket with our Support Centre for further assistance.

Watchguard XTM 5 Hardware Firewalls

Aus Net Servers Australia is pleased to announce that they will commence the roll out of brand new Watchguard XTM5 firewalls to protect the core network and the network routes of our shared server clusters.

Negations have been been underway for a few months now with several firewall supply companies but just today Watchguard was chosen from the shortlisted applicants to become the new hardware firewall provider.

More and more every day we are choosing to do business online, shopping online, banking as well as other recreational activities online, thus we as a server provider and a managed hosting solutions provider needs to step-up our protection to ensure your data is safe and secure.

Throughout this year we have seen many attacks hit the news about major corporations been subject to high level DDOS attacks, and Randsomware attacks that have either being an in-connivance  or caused huge losses of businesses proving how to relaxed we are about pour internet security.

Throughout the next 6 months we will commence rolling out 3-5 new XTM5 units and a further 2-3 in the following 6 months bringing the maximum total rollout amount to 8.

Aus Net Servers Australia will also be purchasing a few additional boxes for use by our clients (for an additional monthly cost) on their un-managed, colo or dedicated server solutions.

if you would like more information on the Watchguard XTM5 units that we will be rolling out please contact us on 1300 933 038 or noc@ausnetservers.net.au

Website Offline 13/01/2012 – 15/01/2012

Hi,

Please note that the Aus Net Servers Australia website will be unavailable between midnight  Saturday 13th of January 2012 and midnight Monday 15th of January 2012.

Your continued patients regarding this matter is much appreciated, we are going to be repairing a database issue that requires the whole site to be shutdown.

In the first week of January 2012 our website suffered a major database crash that caused pages that where working to now not be found and to display the homepage rather then the “404 page not found” error message, and pages that should be displaying properly to not display properly.

Our call centre will be open extended hours during this time to help with sales and support for you and your business and we hope to have the website back online as soon as possible.

If there are any further development that we think you should know about we will be sure to let you know via this thread.

UPDATE 1 ( 23:05 –  15/01/2012)

We are still having issues with pages not been found in the database, the pages are there but the database is still not working 100%. Most of the site is working and back up and running however the site will remain offline for at least another 214 hours. If you need to get in touch with us our client area is now back online and can be accessed by visiting htts://crm.ausnetservers.net.au

UPDATE 2 ( 10:13 –  16/01/2012)

The site has gone back online, please note however that we are not taking orders on most of our services at the moment due to an issue with the integration between client area and the website. Please note that this is currently affecting the following pages:  Email Hosting, Game Servers, Dedicated Servers, Cloud Servers, SSL Certificates, Email Hosting & DNS Hosting.

We are working hard to fix these issues and hope to have the content restored as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on this page for further updates.

OUTAGE UPDATE: Shoutcast Servers

Just a final update for all the clients that have been effected by the downtime on our Australian based Shoutcast Servers.

The original plan was to do an OS update and upgrade both our shoutcast servers from Centos 5.7 (Fnal) to the new Centos 6.0 Release 1.0.1, however we quickly ran into trouble with unstable nodes and malfunctioning os kernals.

We have spent the last 3 days repairing these issues one by one and we are proud to let you know that we will start moving clients back to your new server before 9AM tommorow.

You will be emailed your login details once you have been moved to your new server. If you have any questions please let us know.
